We enjoyed a ‘hot’ but wonderful weekend in the Bordeaux region.
On Friday night we joined the wonderful Baudet family in their beautiful 17th-century château in Blaye. We tasted their range of their wines (red, white and rosé) and enjoyed a fabulous four-course meal with ample helpings of wine, specially matched to the menu.
On Saturday we visited our St-Émilion vineyard, Château Cardinal Villemaurine, to meet the affable Paul Carrille who makes our Grand Cru and Lussac wines. His ancient cellars hewn out of limestone rock are amazing. After lunch in St-Emilion we were grateful for our visit to the ‘cool’, calm Monolithic church and catacombs.
Sunday morning we took a mini tour of some of the famous, photogenic left-bank Grands Châteaux. Then on to our splendid Château Mongravey, producers of our Trophy and Gold Medal-winning Margaux. Yet again we were seduced by Karin Bernaleau and her utterly delicious wines. Afterwards, we enjoyed a long, leisurely lunch at her favourite restaurant, with many vintages of Margaux to savour!!!
Our base was the stunning Château Pontet d’Eyrans.
