Bordeaux Uncorked - July

Fri 28th June – Mon 1st July 2019

An intimate view of the greatest wine region in the world!

Not only do we get to see the amazing châteaux and beautiful countryside, we meet some of our winemakers and experience first-hand, what life is like as a Bordeaux vigneron. We dine in sumptuous surroundings. We spend time in one of France’s most picturesque towns – now a UNESCO world heritage site.  You will sense the sheer opulence and charm of this region; its people, scenery, food and, of course, powerful, intense, beguiling wines!

Friday night we meet the wonderful Baudet family in their beautiful 17th-century château in Blaye.  We taste their range of lovely wines (red, white and rosé) and experience a wonderful four-course meal with ample helpings of wine, specially matched to the menu.

Saturday we visit our St-Émilion vineyard, Château Cardinal Villemaurine and meet the affable Paul Carrille, who makes our Grand Cru and Lussac wines.  His ancient cellars hewn out of limestone rock are amazing.  After lunch in the historic town, which is on our doorstep, we arrange a guided tour of the cool, calm Monolithic church and catacombs.  Others may prefer to explore the town itself, with its cobbled streets and boutique shops.

Sunday morning we take a mini tour of some of the famous left-bank Grands Châteaux.  Then on to Château Mongravey, who make our award-winning Margaux.  It won’t be long before you are seduced by Karin Bernaleau and her utterly delicious wines.  Afterwards, we enjoy a long, leisurely lunch at her favourite restaurant, with many vintages of Margaux to savour.

During the weekend, our base will be the stunning Château Pontet d’Eyrans (pictured) situated in a peaceful setting, just ten minutes from Blaye.
