Our two vineyards are based up in the North Island on the beautiful Waiheke Island and on the South Island in Nelson. Both offer luxury accommodation surrounded by alluring landscapes of sea, sand and, of course, vines. Our winemakers are expert in a number of varietals. Kahurangi Estate is a boutique winery owned by the delightful Greg and Amanda Day. They grow quite an array of aromatic grape varieties to an incredibly high standard in the beautiful climate of Nelson – a region based up in the north west coast of the South Island. It has an ideal terroir for growing grapes with its warm, maritime climate, high sunshine hours and varied terrain.
Nelson is emerging as one of the most exciting regions in New Zealand and Kahurangi make a wine range of well made wines that capture the spirit of NZ. Our Heaphy Sauvignon Blanc is a wonderfully refreshing and fragrant example of this grape variety, with lovely ripe tropical fruit aromas and flavours emanating from the glass. Our Heaphy Pinot Noir is soft, supple and decidedly delicious!

Our Heaphy Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted on a mix of Moutere clay and stony soils. The grapes are machine harvested mid to late April during the cool mornings. The wine undergoes a classic cool fermentation in stainless steel vats prior to bottling in early summer followed by immediate shipment to your door.
It is a classic NZ ‘Savvy’ – intensely fragrant, displaying alluring aromas of cut grass and fresh, minty peas and delicious mouth-filling flavours of gooseberry, passion fruit and blackcurrant leaf. Best enjoyed young, it makes a delicious aperitif or alongside Asian dishes with coriander, lime or chilli.
Our Heaphy Pinot Noir comes from vines planted in the home block surrounding the estate in Upper Moutere, on stony, alluvial soil. The grapes are hand harvested during April then undergo classic burgundian fermentation followed by maturation for ten-months in a mix of American and French oak barrels.
Stylistically, it is very typical of modern NZ Pinot Noir. It has an alluring bramble, spice and vanilla nose leading to berry, cherry and exotic spice flavours that are smooth, supple and elegant. Best drunk within five years as a lightly chilled aperitif or with fennel scented duck breast with Pinot Noir sauce.
This is owner Greg’s personal favourite and it seems to be constantly winning top awards each year. It is a very underrated grape, having the freshness and zip of Sauvignon Blanc as well as the spicy personality of Riesling. This is gently off dry and is beautifully balanced with plenty of ripe pear fruit and citrus flavours as well as a very long, lingering slate and spice finish. A brilliant picnic wine, try this with fish pie, beef carpaccio or curried prawn risotto.
We are proud to recently add Kennedy Point alongside Kahurangi Estate in Nelson to our New Zealand offering. They complement one another superbly well! Waiheke Island is New Zealand’s so called ‘wine island’ and is just 35 minutes by ferry from the capital Auckland.
It is a veritable haven for the country’s rich and famous. It is also a haven for winemakers. There are some 23 wineries on the island, which measures no more than 12 miles long and 6 miles wide. It has a warm sunny climate and varied topography, with outcrops of clay, schist and slate. Although production is very small, it has carved out a fabulous reputation for Syrah and Cabernet/Merlot blends. Kennedy Point have two fabulous luxury B&B’s, so a visit is a must!
The Kennedy Point Syrah is a nod towards the famous northern Rhône style. It is a blend of 98% Syrah co-fermented with 2% Viognier. This is a fashionable technique in the New World, but was first used by the Romans! It enhances the colour and helps provide a lovely floral note. It has been aged for 15 months in French oak barriques and has wonderful, lifted aromas of pepper, spice and dark plum fruit. In the mouth it exhibits layers of lush dark fruits, fine velvety tannins and a sweet juicy core that lingers in the finish.
Due to the warmth and exposition of the soils, as well as the maritime climate, Waiheke Island specialises in Bordeaux varietals. Our Kennedy Point Merlot is a blend of 85% Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a delight and is now drinking beautifully, displaying supple and juicy dark fruits, lifted herbs and a long spicy finish. It has been made in classic Bordeaux style, with ageing in high quality French oak barrels for 16 months.
It has the freshness to cellar to for around 8-10 years. Do try it with braised lamb shanks with tomatoes and red wine.
Both our New Zealand estates offer superb hospitality for members wishing to stay. Not only will you be impressed by the welcome, the accommodation and the wines but both vineyards are situated in absolutely stunning locations … need we say more?
