Our vineyards are located in the St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil region close to the wonderful city of Tours. Further west our other two vineyards are situated in the Anjou, close to one of France’s most beautiful cities, Angers. Specialising in sparkling, rosé and desert wines, the Anjou offers a superb complement to the red wines from Bourgueil.

Carine and her husband Didier Rezé are the fifth generation of the Mabileau family on this domaine and we have known Carine and her parents for over 20 years. A visit here will clearly illustrate the passion and commitment they show towards their land and to making wine.
The engaging and dynamic Carine will show you around their charming domaine as well as their extraordinary underground cellar, the Caves de Cochamtorille, where much of the stone for the Loire’s famous châteaux was quarried. La Jarnoterie craft a small quantity of delicious Rosé from Cabernet Franc. Unlike so many Rosé’s, which can be rather heavy and alcoholic, this has great appeal due to it’s lightness and elegance, coming in at only 12.5 deg alcohol. It is fresh and clean on the nose with red fruit and white flower fragrance. In the mouth there is refreshing grapefruit and citrus fruit leading to a delicate, creamy, mouth-filling finish. A really delicious summer wine that works well as a classy aperitive, or paired with chicken or seafood salads.
Our exclusive Cuvée Carine comes from vines up to 60 years of age, grown on a south-facing slope of sand, limestone and clay. It is deep purple in colour with the classic, telltale nose of Cabernet Franc – warm earth, raspberry and chocolate with a touch of spice from the four-month ageing in chestnut barriques. The palate has a leafy freshness with blackcurrant and raspberry fruit tinged with tobacco leaf and a core of minerality.
Like the delightful owner and winemaker Georges Bureau, the wines of Domaine de Salvert are brimming with personality and charm. He is something of a specialist in making delicious sparkling Crémant de Loire – both white and rosé.
The ancient and historic appellation of Anjou is traditionally an area renowned for rosé and sparkling wines. Situated between the delightful towns of Angers and Tours on the slow, winding river Loire, it has ideal soils and climate for making rosé wines. His Crémant rosé, exclusively made for us, is called Esprit de Sophie to honour her marriage a few years back.

Georges’ beautifully presented Crémant de Loire rosé Cuvée Esprit de Sophie is a blend of a third Cabernet Franc, a third Chardonnay and a third Grolleau Gris. It has been aged on the lees for 24 months. It has an attractively fragrant and spicy nose with fresh, vibrant summer fruit flavours in the mouth and soft, creamy, cushiony mousse. Drink as a stylish aperitif or with charcuterie, quiche Lorraine or mushroom risotto.
Georges’ Crémant blanc is made from 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Chardonnay and has 18 months ageing on its lees (or the solid deposits in bottle) which imparts a richness and complexity. It is crisp and fresh with lovely clean, citrus flavours as well as crunchy apple. The bubbles or ‘mousse’ is fine in the mouth leaving a soft creamy sensation. A superlative aperitif, why not try this with carpaccio of salmon, shellfish or smoked trout.
Georges’ Anjou blanc is made from 100% Chenin Blanc – the king of white grapes in the western Loire Valley. It has a bright, apple-blossom nose and a crisp, mineral palate of citrus fruits and apple. It finishes long, with some peachy richness at the end. Drink over the coming couple of years with a seafood salad, roast pork with apple sauce or oven roasted halibut with fennel.
For Gilles, a fifth-generation winemaker now at the helm of this 20-hectare estate, harvest can take up to six or seven weeks, during which time he is on constant alert and he doesn’t get much sleep! Gilles has to wait until late autumn to see if nature delivers once again. If the early morning mists occur during the golden mornings of autumn, then the resulting pourriture noble (noble rot) can make Gilles’ Coteaux du Layon one of the greatest dessert wines of all; and staggering good value, despite the dedication required to make it.
Gilles makes an award-winning, great value Anjou-Villages rouge. It is normally an unoaked blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. Depending on the vintage, it can be light and fruity or in some years, with plenty of sunshine, it can be quite rich and fruity. An herbaceous nose, typical of Cabernet in the Loire Valley gives way to fresh blackcurrant fruit and firmish structure. Drink with spicy sausages, pizza or Sunday beef or lamb.
This magnificent dessert wine is made from old-vine Chenin Blanc grown on the special slate terroir of the Anjou, close by to the river Layon – a tributary of the River Loire. If botrytis or ‘noble rot’ occurs in the late autumn, then this golden wine can exhibit wonderfully exotic aromas and lingering flavours such as barley sugar, crème brûlée, orange zest, passion fruit and mango. Although long lived, try it young and well chilled as an aperitif or with foie gras, rich pâtés and blue cheese.
Our Anjou blanc Cuvée des Belles-Mères (mother-in-laws’ wine) is a crisp and refreshing blend of 10% Chardonnay and 90% Chenin Blanc. It has fresh apple flavours and a smoky, slightly creamy finish. Best drunk within three years, preferably with delicate fleshy fish in a creamy sauce or roast chicken.
